Goal:
Overview of skills and knowledge in the safe and efficient administration of medication;

Objective: Upon completion of this course the participant should be able to:
1. Discuss the major drug classifications and their physiological and therapeutic effects, dosages and administration .

4. Apply nursing implication in the administration of medication administration

5. Discuss Board of Nurses rules and regulations relevant to Medication Administration

6.Discuss how the 6- Step Decision Making Model may reduce Medication errors

Course Objectives

Course Objectives:

During the course, the RN will accomplish the following in the classroom and/ or clinical site:

1.Collect data sufficient for assessment of patient needs.
2.Provide patient care including performing treatments.
3.Administer and document non-IV medications.
4.Administer and document IV medications.
5.Assist Care team in implementing plan of care.
6.Document on flow sheets and multidisciplinary note
7.Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions
8.Identify the nurse’s responsibilities in relation to common diagnostic tests.procedurs, treatments and medications.
9.Follow the principles of aseptic techniques.
10.Implement appropriate nursing interventions in routine situations.
11.Explain the roles and function of the various health team members.
12.Discuss the legal implications of nursing practice.
13.Identify current nursing trends and issues and their effects on the expanding role of the nurse.
